IP multicast security: Issues and directions
نویسندگان
چکیده
Security represents one of the major obstacles today to the wider deployment of IP mul-ticast. The current work identiies and discusses the various concepts and issues underlying multicast security. A classiication of the current issues is provided, covering some core problems , infrastructure problems, and the complex applications that may be built atop a secure IP multicast. Three broad core problem-areas are deened, namely the problem of fast and eecient source-authentication for high data-rate applications, secure and scalable group-key management techniques and the need for methods to express and implement policies speciic to multicast security. The infrastructure problem-areas cover the issues related to the security of multicast routing protocols and reliable multicast protocols. The topic of complex application covers more advanced issues, typically relating to secure group-communications at the application layer which may be built above an eventual secure multicast infrastructure. Throughout the discussions, references to existing work and work in progress are given. A brief summary of the relevant developments, including those in the IETF, is provided.

Ip Multicast over Satellite
Satellites have been very successful for digital broadcast, and it is a natural step to develop IP multicast over satellite to explore the potential of the satellite systems. This paper discusses the issues of IP multicast over satellite, based on IP multicast protocols using different satellite communications systems including DVB-S and DVB-RCS. The paper provides an overview of the networking...
متن کاملIGMPv3-Based Method for Avoiding DoS Attacks in Multicast-Enabled Networks
IP Multicast has proven to be very good for many-tomany multimedia communications like audio and videoconferencing. However, there are only few Internet Service Providers (ISPs) offering it as a true Internet service. Nowadays, IP Multicast has various issues that are not solved yet and that are making ISPs to think twice before offering IP Multicast to their customers. Some of these issues are...
متن کاملCurrent Trends in Group Key Management
Various network applications require sending data onto one or many members, maintaining security in the large groups is one of the major obstacles for controlling access. Unfortunately, IP multicast is not providing any security over the group communication. Group key management is a fundamental mechanism for secured multicast. This paper presents relevant group key management protocols. Then, ...
متن کاملA Survey of Multicast Security Issues and Architectures
This paper addresses issues relevant to implementing security for IP multicast networks. These issues are of importance to application developers wishing to implement security services for their multicast applications. The paper investigates the steps required to create a secure multicast session including issues of group membership and key distribution. A common simple criteria is established ...
متن کاملAn Overview of Group Key Management Issues in IEEE 802.16e Networks
The computer industry has defined the IEEE 802.16 family of standards that will enable mobile devices to access a broadband network as an alternative to digital subscriber line technology. As the mobile devices join and leave a network, security measures must be taken to ensure the safety of the network against unauthorized usage by encryption and group key management. IEEE 802.16e uses Multica...
